ATSE2023: Using Photodiode Loggers to Estimate the Eclipse Solar Radius
JOA 2023, Vol. 13, No. 4, Page 16 Author(s): Luca Quaglia, John Irwin, Lucian Kafka, Konstantinos Emmanouilidis,Abstract: During the 2023 April 20th annular-total solar eclipse (ATSE2023), we estimated the eclipse solar radius to be Sꙩ ≈ 960.25” by analysing ambient light curves collected with photodiode loggers and to be 959.90” < Sꙩ < 960.02” from visual observation of the eclipse flash spectrum. We discuss the apparent discrepancy between these two results and suggest possible causes which highlight the limitations of using ambient light curves to estimate the eclipse solar radius.
