Beyond Jupiter - The World of Distant Minor Planets FOCUS (49036) Pelion

JOA 2025, Vol. 15, No. 4, Page 4

Author(s): Joachim Siegert

Abstract: Since 2016, the JOA regularly publishes portraits of objects beyond Jupiter’s orbit. This short article on the relatively small Centaur object, (49036)_Pelion gives some background information concerning its discovery, the meaning behind its name and its orbit. The latter shows some degree of uncertainty. Known physical properties are pinpointed and the possibility of different diameters depending on the albedo is highlighted. Favourable occultations through till 2027 are detailed.
